Solved! 8 GB RAM upgrade for HP Compaq 6720s

Hi. I have an old 6720s with T5470 CPU, gme965/gle960 chipset, 2x2GB DDR2 RAM.
Somebody told me that, despite HP specs, it can work with 2x4GB! I wonder if upgrading would be a good idea. And presuming it actually boots alright, could 8 GB be beneficial?

go by what hp says. adding more could cause instabilities. IMO, any money spent on that 10+ year old laptop would be better spent on a newer one.
Go to the Crucial.com web site to see what kind of RAM you need. They can also tell you what the RAM capacity of the machine is. I doubt 8GB would be worth it. Installing an SSD (if you have not already) would yield the greatest improvement. What OS are you running?

Linuxmint, 18.3 Sylvia. I plan to instal a SSD, but the interface is only SATA 1.
