8 GBs of RAM or better GPU + SSD?

Hello,mates.
I know it sounds weird,but,I doubt a 8GB of RAM Laptop [this one] will be way better than a 4GB one with NVIDIA GT 820M/840M + a SSD,in gaming.What do you think?

Replacing RAM and HDD should not void your warranty.
Until now, I have never seen any manufacturer, who put the sticker/warranty shield over RAM and HDD cover.

Some put the shield on the case. I've looked at Dell warranty and it says if you replace the parts those parts aren't covered but the rest of the machine is. But then i had a Gateway desktop years ago that had the graphics card going bad and because I put a retail copy of windows they told me to contact Microsoft. I ended up getting a graphics card they supported on my own and it fixed the issue.

Using a retail copy of Windows on a machine should have nothing to do with the GPU going bad. That's a hardware issue obviously not caused by the fact that you didn't use an OEM key to activate Windows. Bad move on Gateway's part. Bad excuse.
Moreover, Microsoft supplies the same Windows updates to everyone unless the version of Windows is not officially supported anymore and companies pay a premium in order for Microsoft to keep releasing updates just for that company. What this means is that had Microsoft Windows been at fault, you wouldn't have been the only one with those issues. Much less if you used a very specific configuration millions of other people could've bought. (and thus could've found themselves in the same situation as you, with GPU problems)

No the difference between the retail and OEM license is the retail can be installed on a different computer (Legally). OEM licenses are tied to the computer. Basically the computer is defined as the motherboard and or processor. So upgrading the motherboard with a retail license is legal but not legal with the OEM version. OEM though can replace a motherboard and /or processor with the same if the original is damaged.


He said what he did because Gateway has to support OEM windows and MS supports retail Windows. So what he was really saying that I didn't buy the OS upgrade from Gateway they don't have to support it eventhough the hardware was a Gateway. There are laws against this now.

Ah,by the way,the laptop I want runs Linux.
As much as there's the same Steam for Linux,can I play all the Steam games?

You can have Linux, you can have Steam on Linux but basically you can only play Steam games which is prepared for Linux.

You can try to use Wine but there no guarantee that all Windows-based games will run with Wine.

I'd like to install it on that laptop over the basic Linux.
Should I give it a try?

I dunno if you can play Windows-based games on SteamOS too.
But you can try, the OS is for free so why not.

I also could let it go for Windows 8.1,but...I'd wish to automatically update it,which,for now,turns for a start-up issue.*
*The Desktop I do have now is getting itself frozen at ''Starting Windows'' image,right after every update restart.

I have 2 Laptops with WIn8.1 and had Win8.1 on my PC before I decided to roll it back to Win7.
Win8 and Win8.1 is sh*t from the GUI side but I have no complain at all from stability point of view.
I dunno what causes the start-up problem on your side.

It should be so,but it seems that some online games with X-TRAP,GameGuard,HackShield etc. requires ''tech moves'' that I don't know right now.
