Cars that were designed not to have power steering required multiple full turns of the wheel to make a sharp turn. So, even though you had to turn it manually, the force required to turn it wasn't that bad because you had to turn it so far. Cars with power steering steer much more sharply with less turns of the wheel, because they are designed to rely on the power steering.

So if you wind up steering a vehicle with failed power steering, it's not the same thing as steering a vehicle that never had power steering at all.

Plus European cars typically have a different steering than American ones. Its more tight. American steering is rather loose, there might be a bit more effort in steering.

Yes that is true but I didn't buy a premium car to hear that!
