Went to do a simple reprogram after a 920 brain dead incident..this
time again for the third time this month on separate customers old
920's it had a scrambled UID. as I'm sure anyone working on a lot of
them know they do reset to new but the UID remains good. ...anyway
this one wont hold the satellite programming memory like the battery
is dead when unplugged. The new uid starts with a2- like the others
I've seen. Is this what happens to all of them, or when I change the
battery will it be all 00000000's if I don't maintain power?

I guess it will make an OK analog IRD anyway..

When the battery dies the digital ID gets changed to something else. Mine
went to 02-38xx I just sent it back for repair $180 for a new board with new
battery. You get charged $180 because they but a battery in it. A lot of
920s are going dead recently.

Funny thing is, they were all superstar customers.

If that were true then we could sue. I think its the older models. I bought
mine used about 3 years ago.
