922 acting up

Time for the shop, but hoping against hope:

922, battery fine, takes hits, serial number is ok after unplugging,
etc. (I replaced battery in August last year, no probs til now)
VCII board/battery check out ok. Cleaned the terminals.(new bat in
Aug, too)
No problem with service (subscribed channels come in fine, when they
do)

I have 2 C-band dishes, 10 and 12 foot. (separate wiring, of course)
Same on either dish .... so i know its in the receiver.
(10 footer for mpeg, no fading with that receiver on either dish)

Digital and Analog channels: quality varies constantly:
ie: Signal:100, Quality:94 -- from morn/afn/nite: Signal:100,
Quality:1 (no pic, of course, same sat, channel, not moved if day)
(as well, the analog channels aren't even reliable -- sig is there or
not).
Guide disappears every time i cut it off.
Started about six weeks ago first with losing guide randomly.

As i watch the screen, the Signal meter goes 100, 26, 100, 34, 100, 14
constantly, changing every 5 seconds, avg. If the channel is in,
it stays in even with the low sig/quality numbers.

Any thoughts on what's happening? I know its needing to be sent to the
shop,
but one last hope holds out it might have an easy fix. (its winter, i
need tv).

thanks for anything,
rik

I would suspect problems with either the LNB or the cable to the LNB. Either that or
some sort of T.I.

I've changed LNB's but nothing new. Same problems.
And -- happening on both sats, different ribbon cables
installed years apart, i am holding out on that.

I'd never thought of TI == but being on the East Coast
just hours from DC, i wouldn't doubt that.

thanks,
rik

Have you checked the output voltage and put a real signal meter on it?
