Someone needs to build a mini reactor that can fit in a mp3 player or smartphone. Imagine how long you could go between charges. Just think of the possibilities, you could run flash in the mobile browser with out having to keep the smartphone on the charger.

[citation][nom]leandrodafontoura[/nom]there are way better things to do in Sweden....[/citation]

sweden? the same country that made it illegal to have sex with anyone that may look under age even if they have photo id they are over 18 and is trying to make porn that shows anyone under 25 the same as cp?

yea, there is allot more to do in that country than be afraid to leave because of how feminist that country is.

did that wiki leaks person have sex with a woman over there, she got concerned later that he may have had a std so she went to the poliece, and they tried to charge him with rape? that wasnt a 1 time thing because he was wiki leaks person, i found out later that s*** happens all the time.

its not safe to be a man in sweden.

[citation][nom]reprotected[/nom]Its like if I found counterfeit money, but I just cannot tell if it's real or fake. Do I keep it and spend it, or do I confirm it in a bank/wherever if it is real or fake? This guy went to the authorities to confirm if he can keep it and not get into any further legal issues than what they would have done with him if they caught him. This situation is exactly like Phineas and Ferb (if you know the show).[/citation]

personally i would change out the money anyway that i could. i wouldn't take it to authorities or take it to a bank because they would check if its fake or not. i would find someone and ask them if they can make change for 100$ because the machine only takes 20s at most.

that way i take FAR less risk personally. i dont know if its fake but damnit i will assume it is and get change which is less likely to be fake.

He was miles away from making fission, so the article is a lie, but sure you should give him credit for trying. The reason that the police arrested him was to remove the illegal materials that he possesed and making sure he dident harm himself or anyone other for that sake. He was more of a dreamer than a scientist....

Umm, the article didn't state whether it was a fission or a fusion reactor. IEC based fusion reactors are ridiculously easy to build and don't require radioactive fuel. At such a small scale you'll never get net electricity production, but making your own plasma is still a pretty big "cool factor". A fission reactor on the other hand is dangerous to have due to the radioactive fuel byproducts, the transuranic elements created can be incredibly dangerous if they get spread around.

And guys, the dominate cost of a reactor is in the thermal conversion equipment, basically the steam turbine, cool loops and electricity distribution equipment. The reactor core is pretty cheap all things considering.

LMAO and now how it would be nice if this wasn't a misguiding construct. He have constructed a contraption he decided to dub "nuclear reactor" using radioactive material found in his fire alarm. He was arrested and later released because though possession of radioactive material is highly prohibited and regulated, being delusional (as this poor swede is) is not. Nuclear reactor is device for initiating and sustaining controlled nuclear chain reaction. For nuclear chain reaction to initiate it's needed something around 1kg of enriched nuclear material usually uranium or plutonium, at least that much was needed a decade ago while I was in high school and learned about these kind of things. I don't think that someone managed to extract 1kg of anything from fire alarm weighting less than 0.5kg :\

[citation][nom]dimar[/nom]Should have built nuclear PC power suppl, and let Tom's benchmark it for power/efficiency🙂[/citation]

But Toms will find it louder than an alternate design and that just won't do at all.

[citation][nom]TedOReilly[/nom]Obviously he got it from some Libyan nationalists.[/citation]
How else could you generate the necessary 1.21 Jiggawatts?

[citation][nom]elitemarksman[/nom]You dont need uranium to make a fission reaction, there are plenty of other elements that will do the trick. [/citation]
Not "plenty". "Several" is more accurate.

This article is "written" by the same guy who brought us the spoofed *IE users are dumber* article yesterday. Besides, Americium (from smoke detectors) is NOT fissible. There is less than 1 Mc of material in each detector. The best one could hope for is about 1,000 detectors to make a dirty bomb. And only then is it an alpha type emitter with a 1% gamma component in its purest form.

The energy portion of nuclear fission is not electricity. It must use the superheated steam to run the turbines which run the generators. All a nuclear reaction does is create heat...that's it (except for the waste). We just use the heat to run a regular boiler/turbine/electric plant after that. There are other methods use by NASA to create energy from a pile, but it's low energy--not enough to run a city or even a small town.

This is more common than you would think. Often people use the Americium from smoke detectors to make a neutron gun in order to create other elements through beta decay.

Wow you are a sorry excuse for a human. Grow up and do some objective reading.

Yes you can not have sex with someone who is under age (oh and yes an ID is good for age verification)... Btw the age of consent is 15.
You can go into porn when you are 18 because that is when you are of legal age.
Did the wikileaks dude rape? Well that is up to a court to decide and not a guy who has no sense of etics about other individuals. Yes his leaks are for the general good but has gotten quite a few innocent individuals killed. I think he has a "I am the law, you cant touch me" mind, if he really was innocent he would go to Sweden get aquitted and go home. In comparison to ex US, Sweden has a pretty clean track record in the Justice area so tarnishing the Swedish people and its justice system is just lame.

[citation][nom]jsc[/nom]Not "plenty". "Several" is more accurate.[/citation]
Actually plenty can be accurate as the material does not need to be fissionable to be used in nuclear reactors, check out the Thorium reactors that China is making.
