Looks cool (although a dark gray or black version would be welcome), but this isn't exactly exciting, is it? It's just a traditional phone in a modern jacket...

It looks like it might go well with a headset. I don't usually like it when people listen to my conversations over the phone.

Screen needs to have tilt capabilities, which I don't detect in this concept. Most people would not be at eye level when using this. Also the buttons/controls should be on the flat horizontal base rather than on the vertical screen section, they would be a pain to use in that configuration - there is a reason that keyboards are flat on the desk, and monitors are not.

- If you would have a landline for an emergency then it wouldn't be a VoIP line. Mine was out far more times than my cell provider.
- Yes, video chat is not new and this "immobile" device actually reminds me of a scene in 2001:A Space Odyssey where Dr. ...Floyd (yes, I IMDBed the name)was video-chatting from the space station with his little daughter on earth using something like a big video-phone booth. Still, I don't see video calls really picking up even though the technology is here for some time now. The reason for this is not the technical requirements for it, my cell phone can easily do video calls and it doesn't need "boot up" or any "special/proper maintenance". Sure it costs more, but even if the cost was the same as a normal call or even free, I feel that engaging only speech and hearing is more convenient in most cases and still very efficient.
Plus, nowadays if you don't pick up you cell phone you will be asked to have a good excuse. Imagine that extended to the reasons you don't show up your cam.

[citation][nom]darkxuy[/nom]looks like a flat microwave oven.cool phone though[/citation]
[citation][nom]sliem[/nom]It's all about the price. The concept is cool but it does look like a flattened microwave.[/citation]
[citation][nom]proxy711[/nom]this design looks just like my microwave...[/citation]

This was exactly my first thought as soon as I saw it. So long as it works well, I like the design.

What's a land line? 😛

...unless that clear seam between the main unit and the stand means the device also doubles as an independent tablet.
That sure looks like a handle along the entire top of it. Still, no phone jack, so it's not connected to a land line. Looks like an internet-based video chat device that can direct dial out.

whats with that plate on the bottom? are you supposed to put some kind of food there or? That threw me off completely... the top and vertical part was fine... but the bottom? I mean is it so top heavy it needs a bottom end as big as a stand for hd tvs?
