about YouTube buffering

Why does youtube lose the buffered part of a video when i try to rewind or fast forward? In my smart phone YouTube app and I am using xiaomi mi 3 plz help me out

Presumably because it only caches so much video unless it's totally loaded. If you're jumping around, it doesn't make sense to hang on to stuff that's now ten or twenty seconds further away from what you need.
