Acer 572G battery

My Acer 572G will now not run on battery. The charge light comes on when the power brick is attached but it does NOT charge the battery. IF I pull the plug, the laptop shuts down - no juice. I just got rid of Windows 8.1 yesterday and spent the next 7 hours installing and updating Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate. Works great too - other than the battery issue. Are the two related somehow? I have to use this machine on battery occasionally. HELP!!

Charging circuit on the board could be bad or the battery itself may be at fault. Only way to know whether it's one or the other is to try a new battery; if it does not charge nor provide power, then it's the circuit or perhaps the contacts.
