Acer Adapter Problem

A friend gave me his Lab top to fix it's an acer aspire 5250. Now when I plug in the power adapter it recharges the battery just fine but it will not use it as a power source and keeps draining the battery

If the laptop is over 3 years old, look into replacing the battery.
