HP Laptop Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 2430m @2.4GHz
Memory: 8GB DDR3 2 Dimm
HDD: 750GB 5400rpm
GPU: No one is sure exactly what the gpu is, but the HP agents have been saying is a 7690m ( Basically a 6770m equivalent . ) Some HP agents have said it's a 6470m(or something like that)

Link: http://www.shopping.hp.com/series/category/notebooks/dv6tse_series/3/computer_store?jumpid=in_r329_personalization/browse2/home_SDP
Price: $680

Pros: 2 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0, Beats Audio, Finger print reader
Cons: Heard HP laptops aren't very reliable and overheat, theirs a chance the GPU may be a 6470m, the design doesn't look as cool as the Acer one - its more brownish then black, and other cosmetic things.

Acer Laptop Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 2430m @2.4GHz
Memory: 4GB DDR3 2 Dimm
HDD: 500GB 5400rpm
GPU: 540m

Price: $652

Pros: Love the way it looks - seems more "sleek" then the hp , little bit cheaper, usb 3.0
Cons: Heard sound isn't that good - but it's a laptop so I can get over that, 540m is worse then the 6770m ( i think ), half the amount of memory of the HP one

I plan on using for the same thing the average college kid uses it for. And the games I plan on playing are World of Warcraft, Star Wars the Old Republic, League of Legends, and maybe some future games. I'm more of a console gamer though.

Edit Just found this nice Asus one for $680

Make it very clear to HP agent that you need to know exactly what the GPU is. A 6470m and a 6770/7690m is a big difference in performance.

Also try this coupon code on the HP laptop (NBP65875). See if you can lower the price.

The graphics card option says 1GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon(TM) [HDMI, VGA]" - For Dual Core Processor, and most of the HP agents say "We only know what you know" a few of them even told me they would want to know what the specific gpu is. But just as many have said its a new 7690m.

There is a a bunch of discussions about it here http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-pavilion-notebooks/, lately people have been saying the HP agents say its a 7690m.

Yea, it's like Pizza Hut selling a "large pizza" and not even telling you what toppings are on it ( well not really but yea lol.) I'm currently talking to one of them and they are telling me "There is an emabargo from AMD which prevents us from getting too specific (online) on which graphics chipset is offered because the chipsets have not yet officially launched."

Well, if it is not officially launch, then it has to be a 7000 series GPU. But seriously, it is an open secret that there will be a 7000 series of GPU for laptop which is re-badge of the 6000 series.

Tell the rep that if it is not officially launch, then why are you selling it? If you are selling it, then it is launched and as a product in the market, a consumer has every right to know exactly what they are getting.

you guys are silly

the laptop isnt for sale yet. its just preorder, they will not ship until the 10th of january.

also lets make it clear that the new 7000 series is not a rebadge it is a completely new architecture

Everyone was really looking forward to the new architecture, but AMD decide to use them in desktop GPU for now. I have to say, I am quite disappointed about that decision. From the view point of AMD, it was a business decision to clear the old stock and consumer will get better performance for the dollar. However, it really lack the excitement of the desktop 7970. Hopefully the high end laptop card yet to be released will be on the new architecture.

nah it really depends on the game. they are about the same on average but for some games amd will be better and others nvidia will be better.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6770M.43955.0.html

The 3D performance is slightly better than the GeForce GT 555M and therefore positioned in the upper middle class (in 2011).

And some people in other forums have been saying the 6770m is much faster.

@Pyree someone on another site emailed them about the graphics card and they said

I asked about the graphics card of dv6 select edition vial email, the answers are like these,

"Honestly, there are two 1GB graphics card options-1GB AMD Radeon HD 6490M and 1GB AMD Radeon HD 6770M. The reason we don't name them in the configurator is, our Production Team will be the ones to decide which type of card to be installed, for as long as it's 1GB. Hopefully, that answers your question. "

more bad news,

"I understand that you want to know if the 2GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon installed in your HP Pavilion dv6t Select Edition customizable Notebook PC is only of one type which is the AMD Radeon 6770m. We appreciate that you have contacted us on this matter.
It is only labeled 2GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon since it will be HP Engineers and our Production Team who will decide if it will be the graphics card from 6490M/6770M."

I don't really want to, but I can try. HP laptops usually take like two weeks or so to get to your house, and my classes start back January 4th, so going without a laptop for nearly 3 weeks will be kind of hard unless my roommate is in a good mood for a couple of weeks.
