acer aspire one wifi

We bought our son a Aspire One (Windows 8) and it will not pick up any wifi feeds or devices. It says to make sure the wifi switch is on, but the only 'switch' I see is the F3 key to turn on and off Airplane mode (which I have done). Is there something I'm missing? It won't pick up anything and says we need to plug in by ethernet.

Hi, if you go in the Device Manager, under Network Adapters, the 802.11 is it activated, without a yellow triangle or a black arrow pointing down.
