Question Acer Aspire won't boot up.

I have an Acer Aspire 7450 laptop, Windows7. It's about seven years old.
It's recently started not illuminating the screen on bootup. It makes all the right noises but no screen.
I've tried removing power and battery, and long-press of the power button, and F2+F10, and shock-removing the battery during bootup, and loosening the back cover, and long-press battery+F12.
Nothing works.
Also, when it does work, using the HDMI external monitor connection, the external has red colour only, no green hue.
Is it the video card, or is my laptop dying?

Addendum: it boots after I let it sit for ten minutes. At least it did this time.
