When I try to play CD' s on ny laptop they all sound like the Chipmunks. How do I fix this?

I i HAVE TRIED TO PLAY VOCAL CD'S ON MY acer laptop and they all sound screechy and high pitched( and just like the chipmunks) but the same CD's sound okay on my husbands lap top. It is obvious my sound settings are wrong but it seems no matter how I adjust them I cannot get them correct.
