I have an Acer Ezel that is just over a year old. I turned it on today and the screen is not working. I can't see anything at all, making me feel like it's not the backlight (though I could be wrong). I can use the computer while hooked to the TV, and I can even see the touchscreen responding that way. What could be the issue?

Shine a flashlight into the screen when its on, if you see an image then its the backlighting.
Other things you can try is to turn the screen brightness up or toggle the video output a few times from internal to external and back again in case it was accidentally set to only output to an external display
