Acer laptop not letting me log on!

Hi,
My laptop starts up ok, then when it comes to the login process, my keyboard doesn't respond to some letters I try to type and the letters that do respond, come out looking like numbers and things like "á" and other numbers......I can't log in and I have some seriously important stuff on there! Please please help me!!!!! On the verge of throwing my laptop outta the window here! Help needed asap! Thanks!

Maybe the keyboard is bad(?). Are you able to connect an external keyboard (wired or wireless) and log in? (If yes, then the laptop's integrated keyboard may need to be replaced.)
