Acer laptop to panasonic tv with vga

i have tried to connect my laptop to the tv using a vga to hdmi lead. there still dosent seem to be a connection i have tried changing the monitors and fn and f5 still no joy. how can i sync them together do i need to download something. help please

VGA is an analog connection. HDMI is a digital connection. Without a converter (not just a cable), you can't use them together this way.

vga-to-hdmi? vga is analog, hdmi is digital. I don't expect that to work. Either vga-to-vga will work or any digital (dvi, hdmi, dp) to digital.
