Acer laptop wont boot

I am not able to boot up my acer laptop. I had windows 8.1 and I downloaded the repair disk. I put it on a dvd to use. The dvd player works and it use to run everything else however it wont run the disk. My monitor broke so I have an external monitor. I tried all of the hotkeys, tricks, advice but nothing works. Is this a lost cause or is there a fix?

My laptop windows 8.1 crashed out of nowhere today. Downloaded a repair disk from microsoft to reinstall the OS. Burned the disk put it in the CD drive restarted the laptop and nothing . It says it's doing what it does when you first get it but nothing is installed. Lost cause or am I retarted?

My Acer laptop powers on and tries to load windows. It never does. I have tried all of the tricks , hotkeys, etc and nothing works. I was told to test the hard drive to see if is no good. How would I do that?
