Active Sync quit syncing

After working fine for several months, ActiveSync 3.7.1 quit recognizing my
iPAQ 3850/ PPC2003.
Deleting and reloading ActiveSync did no good. Multiple soft resets on iPAQ
did no good. Running the connection wizard (HA) found no mobile device.
Oh, also uninstaled iPAQ windows CE usb device in XP's device manager, then
it found the iPAQ on reconnection but no recognition by ActiveSync.
What else could I try? Short of a hard reset of the iPAQ. Is there a
check list for this sort of thing, or a real connection wizard??
TIA, Charlie

Run windows/welcome.exe.

It's happend to my 3970 a few times in its two years.
I think usb would sync okay, but ethernet AS wouldn't
(didn't actually try usb to see, but I think it would
work, but I don't care to sync via usb).

As a matter of fact, for the past month or so it hasn't
worked, and I've been waiting to hard reset when I got
the chance. After seeing your post, I remembered the
welcome.exe trick. Just did it. AS started right up.
Phew!

You'll find Welcome.exe on your PPC inside
\My Device\Windows\Welcome.exe
So take your PPC in your hand, browse to the windows folder
and find Welcome.exe, tap it to execute.
Running that will put you on the screen alignment procedure
you got when you first turned on your device, so it may seem
like it has done a hard reset but in fact, it hasn't.

Thanks, Ace. Found welcome, aligned screen, reset, still won't sync. Also
tried with different usb cable on different PC where sync had previously
worked, no go. That seems to indicate that the problem is in the
iPAQ,doesn't it? Maybe I'm really stuck with doing a hard reset, if I
can remember how to do it.

Any chance you have a second cable to try out, or infrared available
on your computer? it can be that your cable/connector is worn and
isn't making good contact anymore.
