Adobe Photoshop Grid Help

Hi all

I just need help on how to setup a grid over a photo in Adobe Photoshop. I need the grid to be 1 x 1 cm however i can't seem to do it.

Can someone direct me how to do it. if the process is to long and frustrating then i can experiment and make my way to it.

What version of Photoshop are you using? These directions are for Photoshop CS6:
1) Click on Edit
2) Click on Preferences
3) Click on Guides, Grid and Slices...
4) Change the Gridline Every: option
