The most I can get. This is for carrying around to classes.

Nothing much. A decent processor/RAM to handle any video watching and multiple programs I may have running.
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
So long as it's above 300GB I'm okay with anything.

As long as possible. My previous Sony VAIO lasted almost 4 years.

DVD ROM/Writer suffices.

I'm truthfully open to looking at any brands. This laptop is just to take with me to college.

I've got a gaming desktop to handle all of my games and engineering/other heavy load programs. My 4-year-old Sony Vaio's battery cannot hold a charge past 10 minutes. I'm not looking for a netbook because I feel like it's a waste of money; that's my personal opinion and I have no intentions of starting any arguments. Regardless, I'm looking for a cheap but decent laptop, and while I've found some decent ones I wanted to see what the magical amazing people here on Tom's Hardware could do for me. I appreciate your help guys, thanks a bunch!
