Looking to keep it under $600.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
Anything 15" or under.

3. What screen resolution do you want?
The best possible without overspending.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable.

5. How much battery life do you need?
The most I can get. This is for carrying around to classes.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

No.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Nothing much. A decent processor/RAM to handle any video watching and multiple programs I may have running.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
So long as it's above 300GB I'm okay with anything.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
As long as possible. My previous Sony VAIO lasted almost 4 years.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
DVD ROM/Writer suffices.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
I'm truthfully open to looking at any brands. This laptop is just to take with me to college.

I've got a gaming desktop to handle all of my games and engineering/other heavy load programs. My 4-year-old Sony Vaio's battery cannot hold a charge past 10 minutes. I'm not looking for a netbook because I feel like it's a waste of money; that's my personal opinion and I have no intentions of starting any arguments. Regardless, I'm looking for a cheap but decent laptop, and while I've found some decent ones I wanted to see what the magical amazing people here on Tom's Hardware could do for me. I appreciate your help guys, thanks a bunch! :)
