Hi guyz I'm kinda new here & in need of immediate help.
I have been offered a laptop by HP specs are:
3rd gen i7
8gb RAM
Intel HD 4000 Integrated
Nvdia GT 650M 2GB
Hybrid Drive of 750 GB and a full HD 15inch screen with a Blu-Ray Player
Now I'm intending to play heavy games do a little bit of programming (fresher at computer science engeneering) and it will be a dual booting machine running Win7 ultimate & Ubuntu side by side. Now suggest please and keep in mind the budget...under 1200$

EDIT:
Just got a scholarship will be able to spend 1600$ or just a bit more now lets have your opinions again getlemen shall we??? :bounce:

I take notebook check seriously. And It does not have much information on the gtx mx series. At least as far as benchmarks go. We all agree that the gtx 660, 670, 675, 670mx, and 675mx are better then the gt 650.

Anyway. OP the choice is yours. I would suggest the lenovo if you do not want to get close to your top end. And the sager if you want to be at your budget.

Oh come now, let's keep it real.

Fermi is not miles worse than Kepler.
Kepler is indeed better, but its not by the leaps and bounds you seem to believe.
My point of course, is that for the right price, it might make sense.

The 675m (Fermi) is ever-so-slightly (~15%) slower than a 670mx (Kepler) and even the 670m beats the 660m by ~15%. (assuming stock clocks and up-to-date drivers all around)

650m and 660m are fully functional GK107s when paired with GDDR5. There is no crippling at all. The only arguement there would be clock rates, and even the average 660m with its legs fully stretched has a hard time matching a 670m in the same state, let alone a 675m.

(Warning: overclocking a laptop is not recommended for the vast majority of users. It requires a lot of prior knowledge, furthur reading, monitoring, testing, and strength of pocketbook.)

haf is indeed correct about most of the game market while previous-gen consoles hold back the game tech level. However, there are games like Witcher2. 🙂

A word on notebookcheck. Their tests are the absolute worst any GPU will ever do. If you can handle upgrading drivers, uninstalling bloatware, and a few non-overclocking system tweaks, you will score much better than they do. They also do NOT update drivers for their comparisons. You just have to take it for what its worth.

17.3 gets too big to lug around and is dual booting going to coz a problem especially GPU driver issues with Ubuntu??

Dude portability is an issue but the graphics processor you have mentioned is gonna get outdated in barely 3years and I would want it to give high performance for the next 4 years on demanding games

It matches your original post spec and that's the best GPU you can get I believe anything 13" and under. Maybe even 14". If you're willing to carry 15" or above, disregard my post.

Ya am ready to carry 15.6 inch........

... with your budget and the lack of customizability(ie model choices) on the msi gt60 I would suggest sager. I personally believe that msi's build quality is slightly better.
