alienware m18x r2 charging problem

I've had this m18x r2 laptop for over 4 years now but it suddenly stopped working, when I plug in the charger, the charger or the laptop makes a click and turns off. this happens with or without thee battery in the laptop, oes anyone know why?

it could either be your adapter have failed or the dc jack on the motherboard is damage.only way to find out is trying your charger on another model or trying another adapter.i had mine failed on my 17 with a 780m.luckily i ordered a spare adapter as well when i ordered the laptop.
