Hi guys,

I am the owner of an Alienware MX17X10 notebook, its spec are as follows:

Intel i7 Q820 - 1.73ghz
8gb Ram
Crossfire Radeon HD 5870's

I have previously played a range of games on this laptop without an issue, the main one being World Of Warcraft, usually on max settings or close-to-max. However, recently I have had issues with the laptop now overheating and shutting down whilst playing WoW on the lowest of settings, I can't afford to purchase a new notebook or any kind of repairs and have a feeling this may have something to do with the graphics cards.

The laptop sits ontop of a cooling stand for the notebook, but it still gets VERY hot and then just shutdowns down unexpectedly. By brother bought an DELL XPS desktop setup identical to the spec of this notebook and noticed his gfx cards were overclocked as standard, I can't help but think maybe these gfx cards in my laptop are the same.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Open the back panel of the laptop and clean out any dust from the fan's.it's also a good time to replace the thermal paste for the cpu.since you are running a dual graphic setting, the heat will be more than a single graphic setup.
