Well it is completely possible that the mic was to far from the source when they were recorded.

I would suggest moving them over to a computer, and see if you can hear anything, especially when you turn up the sound a lot. If you can, but barely, then your mic was to far when recording.

Also, it is possible to turn off the sound in a recording, so that it never records, but that is way less common.
