AMD chipset driver: a mess

I'm currently using an old HP Pavillion DV5 1102EL: the motherboard model should be something like Quanta 3600, on which a AMD Turion X2 RM-72 is mounted, along with 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM. I came to the conclusion that the chipset - AMD calls it northbridge chip - I'm using is the 780g.
The OS is Windows 7, 32 bit.

Since I recently installed a SSD drive, I'd like to find the best chipset drivers available in order to improve the performance, but it seems like the latest ones provided by AMD are faulty.

Here what I did so far:
1. I downloaded what I thought it was the correct driver from the AMD website: http/support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows 8 - 32
2. I installed it.
However, when those drivers are installed, waking up the PC from the sleep mode always results in a BSOD.

The only way to restore the system is to unistall the new driver, the one that's for the AMD SATA controller, and roll back to the one Microsoft provides, which is from 2006.

Am I doing something wrong?

Use the drivers provided by HP support for your computer! The drivers will not affect performance much if any.

The driver comes in a very old version, it is from 2008: it does the job - non BSOD - but is it possibile to get a more recent one?

OEM's tend to modify drivers for their boards and that is the only way to ensure compatibility! Newer ones from not approved by them can have issues like you found out. As I said before the driver upgrade's are not for performance increase rather bug fixing if any.
