My Girlfriend wants to purchase a budget notebook to study and to play low-end games with me (MOBAs and old MMOs), and I've found two options. Both have a Intel i5-5200U and 4GB RAM (and I think about upgrading it to 2x4GB if needed). The only difference is that one has a dedicated R5 M230 and the other one uses a integrated Intel HD 5500.

So which one is better for gaming? AMD Radeon R5 M230 or Intel HD Graphics 5500?

I'm kinda confused regarding benchmarks:

1) On Videocardbenchmark.net, the Intel has a better G3D Mark: =2908&cmp[]=3025]http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=2908&cmp[]=3025

2) On FutureMark.com, the M230 has a better 3DMark than Intel: http://www.futuremark.com/hardware/gpu/Intel+HD+Graphics+5500/review# and http://www.futuremark.com/hardware/gpu/AMD+Radeon+R5+M230/review

3) On UserBenchmark.com, Intel has again a better performance than the M230: http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Radeon-R5-vs-Intel-HD-5500-Mobile-095-GHz/m12264vsm16570

Thanks!

Hi,

If you're going to compare the 2 GPU's I would go for a laptop that has a dedicated GPU. A built in GPU will depend on the RAM that is installed in the laptop, it's sharing the RAM in short. :) The AMD GPU is an entry level GPU that is good for some games but you may not be able to play the latest games in High settings, I would say you'll be able to play them from Low - Medium.

Hi friend;

Yeah, it's obvious that a budget notebook isn't meant to run latest games :p As I said, the idea is her just be able to play some low-end games with me. We're mainly thinking about MOBAs (League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm) and maybe some oldschool MMO like Maple Story.
