I was a longtime subscriber myself to Nintendo power, Will miss it!

SADLY its actually been "gone" for sometime now. (Sine 2006 or 7).

You see back in the day Nintendo power was actually written by people at Nintendo Of America! However in 2006 or 7 Nintendo decided to stop! they got rid of the writers at Nintendo of America and sold Nintendo Power to some other magazine company who wrote Xbox and PS magazines. Thus Nintnedo power was written by totally different people from then on. (Look it up! I'm not joking! I was a subscriber during this transition.)

Nintendo Power kept it's name and format but it never felt the same again! It was shorter and it didn't feel like the writers had the inside scoop of Nintendo news because they aren't even from Nintendo. No offense to them that made a good effort but it just wasn't the same. I miss the old writers.

As for Nintendo losing iconic games and soul, Perhaps they are a little bit. But I find a lot of the games still quite good. the Mario series is still good if they are careful to care about the game. It's sad Mario Party 8 wasn't as polished or classic as some would have liked and It's sad Mario Party 9 is not developed by Hudson anymore, Those people at Hudson soft know good games, Same for Hal Laboratory and the Kirby series. The new Super Mario Galaxy games I haven't played yet. So I don't know if they "Live up to expectation" But Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros , Super Smash Bros Brawl was pretty cool.

[citation][nom]Mathos[/nom]The end of an era I think. And it goes to show how little Nintendo is putting out now that's truly worth playing, or reading about. Or for that matter, games made by other companies for their systems. I remember sneaking out to a friends house to play Super Mario 3, Metroid, and Zelda. Then when I finally got my own, add castlevania 3, Batman, Dragon Warrior, Bandit Kings of Ancient China, Final Fantasy. Then on the old school fat game boy, you had Zelda: Links Awakening?, more final fantasy, and a ton of other things. Super NES took that all further with super mario world, Zelda: a link to the past, use to spend hours playing super metroid. Or one of the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms games. Star Fox was pretty amazing when it came out. And I think one of my all time favs was Mega Man X. Add to that, final fantasy 2/4, and final Fantasy 3/6.Something to think about.... Isn't it Ironic that these games, in their limited 8bit and 16bit glory, had more story and depth of character development than most modern games do on super advanced systems? Not to mention fun factor and replay ability.[/citation]

Well back then a company couldn't license or reuse an engine to death and rehash the same cookie-cutter crap ad infinitum. When graphics and sound were more limited, developers and designers had to rely more on great story telling, memorable characters, and engrossing gameplay. I actually remember many game characters and story lines from back in the day, but from current games, not so much.
