I was a longtime subscriber myself to Nintendo power, Will miss it!
SADLY its actually been "gone" for sometime now. (Sine 2006 or 7).
You see back in the day Nintendo power was actually written by people at Nintendo Of America! However in 2006 or 7 Nintendo decided to stop! they got rid of the writers at Nintendo of America and sold Nintendo Power to some other magazine company who wrote Xbox and PS magazines. Thus Nintnedo power was written by totally different people from then on. (Look it up! I'm not joking! I was a subscriber during this transition.)
Nintendo Power kept it's name and format but it never felt the same again! It was shorter and it didn't feel like the writers had the inside scoop of Nintendo news because they aren't even from Nintendo. No offense to them that made a good effort but it just wasn't the same. I miss the old writers.
As for Nintendo losing iconic games and soul, Perhaps they are a little bit. But I find a lot of the games still quite good. the Mario series is still good if they are careful to care about the game. It's sad Mario Party 8 wasn't as polished or classic as some would have liked and It's sad Mario Party 9 is not developed by Hudson anymore, Those people at Hudson soft know good games, Same for Hal Laboratory and the Kirby series. The new Super Mario Galaxy games I haven't played yet. So I don't know if they "Live up to expectation" But Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros , Super Smash Bros Brawl was pretty cool.
