I like the Bose Lifestyle but the $2000 pricetag is a turn off. I was at PC Richards and saw the Bose with 2 speakers/acustic machine and the dvd player for $999. Is this one reccomened or are theyre better ones for the same price or lower? Something that wont also have me lynched from my apartment that Im moving into lol.

bose have got the worst reputation in the audio business from what i have heard. really bad performance for the money, kinda like apple.

i ain't an expert however but am sure you could get better.

this may be of interesting reading. it is only someone's opinion but interesting none the less.

Bose produce decent sound, but relative to their price, they really don't.
I'm cautious of them from the fact they don't give their speakers frequency
response out. Odd.

The best bet is to grab a few of your favorite CD's/mp3's and listen to as many speakers
as you can in your price-range. Don't focus too much on reviewers since tastes
differ. Some prefer the "rich-ness" of say, Polk's, but I prefer the almost over
powering high's and punchy bass of upper end JBL's. It' all opinion, and since
it's your dime, only your opinion counts.
