AOL no longer works with Win7

Why can I only us AOL Desktop in Safe mode please?

Uninstall it and re-install from here http/discover.aol.com/products-and-services/aol-desktop-for-windows

It should work with Windows 7 fine.

It doesn't sadly as i've been trying for over three weeks now and all it says is AOL is not compatible with Win7. AOL know about this problem but won't even answer emails, it's been two weeks now and i'm still waiting for a reply.
AOL desktop no longer works in Win7 and i have to accept that because no one appears to be able to help. I've removed all traces of AOL three times now and it makes no difference.
I have no idea what to do to get it to work as Microsft and AOL are playing deaf. :*(
