"And what if games were now designed for OSX first and windows in second because apple controls EA and activision... could be a very serious threat to MS's supremacy"

"Apple could kill off the Xbox and Playstation brands in a single swoop if they bought EA. "

What you guys are failing to grasp is how EA sustains itself. Certain franchises they hold are multiplatform because they are required to make them multiplatform. Apple absorbing EA and enforcing exclusivity would cripple EA as they would lose the rights to many of their bread and butter games.

When Patcher called this retarded he was underselling how stupid this would be compared to other alternatives Apple could make.

That was my thought. They threaten Windows as a gaming platform.

Exactly. EA lost 1 billion last year. To cut off any revenue stream would be suicide of the highest order.

"We know you guys are sort of against Twitter by principal so ......."

Correction: "..in principle.."

Please learn the difference between "principle" and "principal"

lets just go with the whole silly speculation thing and follow it to its most absurd conclusion.
'Apple maybe in talks to buy AMD'

[citation][nom]tayb[/nom]Apple could kill off the Xbox and Playstation brands in a single swoop if they bought EA. Just outright refuse to sell all EA titles to Microsoft or Sony and exclusively sell them on your own console. Game. Set. Match. Wow I hope that doesn't happen.[/citation]
You seem to think EA sells "games", not just random crap thrown together smudged off the bottom of the international sludge pile.

and Microsoft just is in the eyeing the United States of America as a potential take over.... it's just that retarded, it makes no sense and whoever believes it is stupid. If it were true, then it'll be an OMFG moment for a good week for me.

Patcher is correct, it'll make more sense if Apple purchased Warner Music than Electronic Arts.

LOL, EA doesn't OWN the gaming industry. If apple buys it, it won't kill the gaming industry, relax, devs will just license there games to someone else in pc land. Hopefully steam. I love steam, cuz It's so easy. just click ur games, install, and play. LOVE IT.

LOL it'll be fun if Apple takes over EA. We'll probably see the next installment of Crysis built ground up for the Mac.... with a probable PC port the year after perhaps? lol...

I ran across an article the other day http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124104666426570729.html that said Apple is gearing up to design their own chips, and as a result is hiring people from different segments of the industry. They want lower power consumption and better graphics for the iPhone and iPod, and to shield their work from rivals, it says. If it's true then I think that's probably all this is about.

I actually think that an Apple VG console would be a great idea; Sleek sexy design, stylish UI (!COUGH! XMB Sucks!), & stable HW and OS; I can see it now... Ahhhh... Wait!... where was I? Oh yeah! Seriously, sure Apple doesn't really know anything about gaming, but neither did MS before XBOX. I think given the proper focus, which SEGA sorely lacked, and R&D capital, which Apple clearly has an abundance of, I could totally see a very profitable Apple console; As long as they don't cater to only the casual gaming market (!COUGH! Wii sucks!). Look, I know Nintendo has sold a Ga-Billion of the Wii but they are not a VG company anymore; The Wii is like a group of friends sitting around playing Pictionary, sure it's fun every once and a while but it gets boring real quick! Maybe Nintendo should go back to their roots and start making playing cards, instant noodles, and "Love Hotels"

[citation][nom]tenor77[/nom]Seriously? You never did PC gaming during the 90's did you?MS had some of the best PC games.[/citation]

I assume you mean age of empires and not their stupid flipper or minesweeper. Anyway microsoft knows a great load about gaming. That's probably why they invented directx in the first place. They however also know that a poorly planned game isn't selling well, so they leave the creation of poor games to game developers. Why gamble when you can make money off of others gambling.

Anyway, the hiring of those people doesn't really seem unlikely. If we assume they want to make a iphone thing that is good at portable gaming, they'd need someone who knows what a game is and how gaming hardware needs to behave.

Ah... I hate to tell you this, but M$ has been writing and publishing games since Windows 3.1. Yes Windows 3.1, that long. No the didn't make consoles, but the did a lot of game work. Bought/updated DirectX for PCs, ran a place called Microsoft game studios, plus much more. M$ has been dabbling in games for a long time (just like $ony before the PS One).

Apple has never been in the game world and has shown very little interest in doing so. That sleek looking Apple style box already exists BTW. It's call the Wii. If it didn't say Nintendo on the side the Wii looks like it came strait from an apple catalog.

and it's got the same obsession with dumbing things down that make me hate it.

imagine being able to play 3d games on a mac... what a world. That reminds me I haven't played Escape Velocity in a while
