[citation][nom]PatentKrazy[/nom]A patent on the specific use of others' patents. Brilliant innovation![/citation]
Yep, another case where Apple takes someone else's technology...and files for a patent based on it.... Further proof that the US Patent System is a pure joke. Similar to when Eolas was permitted to file a patent infringement suit against Adobe and Sun Micro over "technology" they both held patents for....which Eolas won.... If you want a good laugh...read this: http://m.news.com/2166-12_3-10368638-264.html

Amazing. Do they have a working prototype? If no, then this patent should not be granted.
I have the feeling that patents are not filed by engineers but by IP lawyers employed by tech companies. They sit all they or bother the engineers for ideas, then they sit and draw a crappy picture in MS paint and file it for patent. And voila they have a patent and then they go and sue somebody.

Well, at least this is something new :)
Before, they just used to patent things that other had discovered. Well I shouldn't generalize but there were some situations - see patend disputes with HTC and Samsung

Apple's 3D approach will not be a trick on your eyes, but an actual physical effect that is delivered via three individual displays that are stacked on top of each other.

A recently published patent filing reveals that Apple envisions two transparent OLEDs as well as a background LCD to be used for a 3D display that can deliver limited depth by separating content. At least one processor will be used to control the separation and the interaction of content, while the patent describes a scenario in which one GPU is controlling all displays and another in which individual GPUs are tied to individual displays.

Complexity is the enemy and from what I can understand it sounds like the GPU will be in charge of three different screens which especially on lower end systems sounds disatorous.

Casinos already use this in their slot machines. Most LCD displays on the slot machines at the casions are 2 or more LCD screens used together to make it appear to have depth or to make graphics jump at you.

Horrible idea... Whats the point? It's like a cheap parlor trick, not real 3d. Limited depth 3d?!?!
I'd rather use "ANY" other 3d technology, including the red cyan glasses.
