So, I connected my Apple TV from the optical output with a converter to my stereo and it doesn't seem to work. The audio is coming through to my tv through the hdmi but not to the stereo. I tried disconnecting the hdmi as well as to not confuse the device which output to use. I can't find an option to choose the optical output for audio. Anyone got an idea what could be wrong?
Thanks!

Solution
With your Apple Remote, select Settings > Audio & Video.
Change the Audio Output setting from Auto to 16 bit.

Turn off the Dolby Digital Out setting (your TV or receiver may not be properly detecting a Dolby Digital signal):
With your Apple Remote, select Settings > Audio & Video.
Change the Dolby Digital Out setting from On to Off.

Did you try either of those?

And you may have gotten a "convertor" instead of a decoder. The first just converts the audio from optical to rca, but if there is any surround info, or copyright info, it won't play anything. Decoders are more, but will decode a surround signal to stereo and keep the copyright police happy. lol.

Try the above two options though first.
