Are there ANY manufacturers making new players?

I have about 1000 laserdiscs that my father-in-law gave us when he moved to
a smaller place. Pretty much every good movie made from 1950 through 1995.
I have two players, one of which is broken. I have the good one in the
kid's playroom and would like another for in my family room, but I'm a
little timid about purchasing through ebay or from a stranger on the web.

Is there any manufacturer still making VLD players today? If not, are there
any reliable stores (online or brick and mortar) who sell used equipment?
We'd love to pickup one or two (for backup) players.

Hi, from my understanding the last laserdisc player ever made was in
2002. The only place I really know of that is selling players is
www.laserdiscservice.com they seem to be experts in the laserdisc
field. I know your cautious about ebay but honestly I have bought 3
players off ebay before and never had any problems with them (except
one but that was my fault). Buy the way stick with pioneer, mitubhishi,
or panasonic. Good luck.

I would also recommend Pioneer. Talk to Duncan at
www.laserdiscservice.com I have dealt with him in the past. Honest
guy, very knowledgeable. I am sure he could set you up with a good
player. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one from him at all.

Pioneer is still manufacturing 2 models for the Japanese market: the
entry level CLD-R5 and the LD/DVD combi DVL-919. I can export these
(from Tokyo) new-in-box on request, as well as higher-end discontinued
models.

Nicolas sourced a DVL-919 for me that has a manufacture date of July
2004. Keep in mind the DVD playback is Region 2 NTSC only.
