Asus K52F overheating problems

Hi. My almost two year old laptop (Asus K52F) started showing some overheating problems. On HWMonitor it shows around 75-80ºC with simple browsing internet and stuff while using it on AC adapter; while using on battery only it reduces to 65-70ºC. Two months ago i updated to Windows 8 (not a clean install), but only a week ago the problem started to happen; the only thing I think I changed around that time was installing an Office 2013. I opened it and cleaned the fan, reapplied the thermal compound and stuff, but the problem continue. I don't know what to do; the funny thing is that the air coming out from the vent isn't hot, it's cool. That copper thing on the heatsink it's really hot close to the processor, but close to the fan it's not, I don't know if the heatsink it's the problem. I can't watch flash videos anymore, because when I do it starts to get hotter and hotter until it turn it offs. Hope somebody can help me 🙁

If you open up task manager, how many processes are running in total? A healthy machine should be below 40 (after boot). I have seen some around 85 and they run very hot, double check this. If it turns out your running alot click the "Startup" tab and delsect all, reboot and see how it goes from there.

I would say its unlikely that there is an issue with your heatsink as its a chunk of metal, not alot to go wrong... If anything, i would check its screwed down correctly, and in the correct order, there is usually numbers 1-4 (or 1-3) on the screws around the heatsink, make sure you screw up in this order or the heatsink wont be square to the cpu and wont be dissipating the heat correctly.

the first thing you need to install notebook cooler like this one

if overheating continues you may choose energy economy plan in you windows power plans, if it will not help then go to advanced settings of energy plans & set maximum state of CPU from 100% to 99% - such settings may down your laptop CPU-NB temperature

Did you ever get your laptop repaired?
I have the same laptop with exactly the same issue. Have tried replacing the paste with varying types and the heat transfer pads on the GPU also but to no avail. It seems odd like you say how the copper is only hot upto the graphics processor then is cool after that and indeed blows out cold air. I have changed all the Windows settings to lower performance and the laptop is doing very little. In fact it just overheated in the BIOS screen!! Hopefully you have an answer as this is driving me insane. I am thinking of purchasing a new heatsink but like SuperPCRepair said, I cant see how that could be the issue.

hi, sorry for the bad English. Same notebook and same problem. Everything worked fine until one day I decided to clean the fan. I just unplugged the fan from the notebook, the heatsink is not removed. I cleaned the fan only for the sake, temperatures were good 43 ° - 46 ° C in idle and 56 ° - 61 ° C in full and could not hear any noise. After installing the fan in idle temperatures 54 ° - 62 ° C and in full 70 ° - 82 ° C and the fan makes so much noise. Sometimes it off because it reaches 90 ° C. Now I wonder why this has happened. I tried to replace the thermal paste but nothing happened. Copper is very hot to the GPU, from that point forward gets cold. In a Polish forum I read that in the sink there might be a gas that helps to cool. I want to ask, the fan should rotate clockwise or counterclockwise?

many people have the same problem for Asus K52F but no one can with certainty give a solution. In your experience what could be the cause of the problem?
- The motherboard?
- The CPU
- The copper sink?

But all this seems strange to me. I just unplugged the fan without touching anything, and when I reassembled the problems started high temperatures and fan noise for the high rpm.
