I put a solid state drive into the ASUS K61IC laptop and it's great but can I put more than 4 GB RAM into the two Dimm slots? I don't mind replacing the originals as long as the laptop is stable. My OS is Windows 7 64 bit. 8 GB RAM would suffice. Can you recommend a vendor (Crucial, Kingston, etc)?

Yep! Asus may or may not state otherwise, but thanks to folks that have tried and succeeded, we know what even when OEMs often advertise a MAX memory configuration, exceeding it is usually doable.

If you have four memory banks and you want to populate the other two, then check the memory that's currently installed and match those (buy identical sticks, in other words). If you only have two banks and are replacing - instead of adding - memory, then see if Asus has a QVL (qualified vendor list) just to avoid purchasing incompatible memory.

Thanks. I know I only have 2 banks but, if priced correctly, I will replace the 2# 2GB dimms with 2 # 4 GB dimms.
You wouldn't know the URL of the QVL? What kind of seach string would I use?

I didn't happen to come across it myself, but I imagine if you contact Asus via a technical inquiry form, they may be able to link you. The one link I found that looked promising seems to have had its page moved or removed. :(

Key word phrase I would think would be simply: Asus k61ic qvl memory/RAM

One PDF pulled up but it didn't look like it applied to laptop boards or memory QVL specifically.
