asus laptop plays cd but not dvd

Asus laptop plays audio cds but not video or files, I have windows 10. I have uninstalled drivers etc and re-installed but it doesn't make any difference. Any help would be appreciated.

as it plays cd's ok but not dvd's then either the dvd laser head is dirty or it has died.

What program are you using to try and play DVDs? Does the drive recognize that a DVD is inserted, but just won't play it? Windows media player in Windows 10 doesn't play DVDs without paying a fee, if memory serves.

Try VLC media player. It's free. https/www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
