Hello guys.
I have an ASUS laptop and watching movies happens that when subtitles appear the screen dims. I'm not sure if it's because of dynamic contrast or because of adaptive brightess.
All I know is that it's not related to media player because it happens with vlc, netflix and every other players.

I tried disabling power saving on intel panel, and entering these commands
powercfg -setdcvalueindex d88259a4 7516b95f-f776-4464-8c53-06167f40cc99 FBD9AA66-9553-4097-BA44-ED6E9D65EAB8 0

powercfg -setdcvalueindex d88259a4-c069-4bc7-b85b-83b0959124d7 7516b95f-f776-4464-8c53-06167f40cc99 FBD9AA66-9553-4097-BA44-ED6E9D65EAB8 0

powercfg -SetActive d88259a4-c069-4bc7-b85b-83b0959124d7

ps: d88259a4-c069-4bc7-b85b-83b0959124d7 7516b95f-f776 is my current_scheme

I tried also editing FeatureTestControl on regedit setting it to 9250 and also tried these:

  1. Select the Start button.
  2. Type Regedit and then press Enter.
  3. Navigate to the paths below and then double-click ProcAmpBrightness.
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel\Display\igfxcui\profiles\media\Brighten Movie
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel\Display\igfxcui\profiles\media\Darken Movie
  4. Change the value to 0.
  5. Close Regedit and then restart your PC.

None of these solutions changed anything. Screen dims with both Windows 10 (even on safe mode) and Ubuntu.

Can you please help me?

The first thing to check is the Windows Advanced Power Options to ensure the adaptive brightness feature is off.

Right-click the Start button > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Balanced (or whichever plan you are using) - Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Display > Enable adaptive brightness > "Off" > Apply > OK

The next thing to check would be the Intel Graphics Properties. The main thing to look for is the "Power" options.

Right-click the desktop (or click the Intel Graphics system tray icon) > Graphics Properties > Power > On Battery > Display Power Saving Technology > Disable > Apply

Hopefully, that helps!
