I'll choose the Y510P any day because of the GT 750M gDDR5 Graphics Ultrabay SLI graphics. They are the beat you can get for doing any GPU intensive task. And also the 635M is not a good GPU for rendering and Graphics as compared to the 750M SLI, and as the price of the two laptops is similar, I'll definitely choose the Y510p as it will be future-proof for atleast 2-3 years.

Will be better if you go with the i7-4700mq processor in the Y510p as its clock speeds are +200 MHz but if not possible then even the i7-4702mq is a good processor. It's like i7-3630qm vs i7-3632qm.

I hear a lot of people complaining about the y510p HDD and how slow it is. is 1TB that bad if im mainly going to use the computer for gaming, battlefield 4 mostly.

The Y510P specs might be better but I will advice you to go for the Asus. I was in the same problem as you - choosing between the Asus N56 and Lenovo Y500 then. I have used both and I can boldly say that the Asus is clearly better. it offers better value for money. just buy an SSD in the Asus... 1tb SSD goes for $600.
Asus has better keyboard, the asus sound is the best I have ever heard - better than beats, jbl or dolby audio. the asus is made for the user comfort. lenovo just has the better specs... WEI(windows experience index) is similiar for both laptops.

Avoid the WEI. It's virtually useless as a bench tool. :)

Asus does use good speakers, but I will have to agree with the consensus thus far: the Lenovo is the better value.

For that budget though, you could get something more powerful from Clevo/Sager (unless you want to add a second 750M, in which case it'd be pretty comparable to what I'm thinking of).

I have the Asus n76vj which is the same as the n56 instead bigger, it beats all of my friends laptops and desktops and the sound beats a 100$ sound system until the sound system passes it. Also Asus has the best service I have ever had, answer quickly and helped me so fast it was unbelievable, trust me.

I have the y410p (it's 14" cousin), and it's been working great. The only keyboard I like better is my overpriced desktop keyboard. And the hardware is great for the price they are selling the laptop for.

Unless I missed something, those 2 laptops have essentially the same specs/ better with lenovo, aside from the hard drive. Even then the sshd you selected is quite fast (I have one as well). If you want a better one you can probably swap it for a full ssd fairly easily

Lenovo customer service is good in my experience, if you have a problem then they can phone help or you can ship it in for repairs and get it back within a standard couple of weeks. I can't speak from experience with ASUS, but I havent heard the best things about their customer service (although they seem to make great computers, so I guess in theory you wouldn't need to send it back).

But overall I would recommend the lenovo, particularly because of the hardware and also because I have the y410p and am very happy with it
