Asus S550 Backlight Turns off When Tilting Lid - Repair Advice

As stated in the thread title. Backlight turns off, image is still visible with a flashlight. Happens when tilting the screen forward, at around 90 to 100 degrees.

I suspect a faulty cable... or maybe the switch for the backlight. Any ideas to help me hone in on the culprit? I'm also intimidated to take this apart -- any tips?

Hi,

I would suggest checking the ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the motherboard first. Remove both ends from the LCD to the motherboard then plug it back in just to make sure that it's seated properly and if that will not solve the problem I would suggest replacing the LCD cable.
