Asus X53E upgrade wifi?

My Asus laptop has an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Adaptor fitted. Can I install a different card to allow 5GHz connections.

Yes. See this VIDEO. You will need to purchase a new card (they are available like THIS), or you can use a dongle.
