Hi, I'm an amateur web designer looking for a laptop for light video editing (Cyberlink PowerDirector) and light graphic editing (Paint.net), as well as browsing the web, emails and watching videos (youtube) and web design (working online in WordPress).

Which would you recommend between the following 2 laptops?

1) ASUS X555UA-DM111T
-i7-6500U (2.5GHz)
-Intel HD Graphics 520
-15,6" Full HD (1920x1080)
-256GB SSD
-8GB RAM
-WiFi adaptor 802.11b/g/n
-2.3kg
-2-cell lithium ion (around 6hrs)
-Windows 10

2) ASUS X555DG-DM057T
-AMD FX-8800P (2.1 GHz)
-Radeon R8 M350DX (2GB)
-15,6" Full HD (1920x1080)
-256GB SSD
-8GB RAM
-WiFi adaptor 802.11ac
-2kg
-2-cell lithium ion (around 5hrs)
-Windows 10

Any feedback would be very much appreciated,
Thanks, D

I would choose the X555UA as firstly I am not the biggest fan of AMD and I do prefer Intel. The first one does have a better CPU so it would be a bit faster. There is not a huge difference between both of these. The first one also has a better battery so I would say go with that.

If you are not planning on doing any heavy gaming or heavy editing then it should be fine. It might not be as fast if say you would have a dedicated graphic card. I am guessing that the colours need to be fairly good on the screen. However, I am not totally sure but I think that the colours on the laptop are not that great and they have like a blue tint. I might be wrong though.

Yea, I'm not a professional, nothing heavy (and no gaming perhaps a little Worms!).
I actually have the laptop now, the screen looks pretty good when you adjust the settings, it's full HD (not IPS though).
I think it might be hard to find a better laptop for the price but if there is one then great... :)
Thanks

Hi again MolochHD,

How about this as a third option:

1) ASUS X550JX-DM257T
-i7-4720HQ (2.6 GHz, Quad-core)
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M 2GB
-15,6" Full HD (1920x1080)
-256GB SSD
-8GB RAM
-WiFi adaptor 802.11ac
-2.45kg
-4-cell lithium ion (44Wh)
-Windows 10

Better than the other two? I was wondering about the i7 only being 4th gen...
Thanks!

Thanks MolochHD

Yea, that's what I was hoping with the quad core. Do you think with it being only 4th gen that would matter much?
(I also like that this system has a dedicated graphics card - hope it's a good one) :)

Just one last thing, how do you think the ASUS X550JX compares with Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (below)?

ASUS X550JX
-i7-4720HQ (2.6 GHz, Quad-core)
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M 2GB
-15,6" Full HD (1920x1080)
-256GB SSD
-8GB RAM (DDR3)
-WiFi adaptor 802.11ac
-2.45kg
-4-cell lithium ion (44Wh)
-Windows 10

Lenovo IdeaPad Y700
-i5-6300HQ (2.3 GHz, Quad-core)
-Nvidia Geforce GTX 960M 2GB
-15,6" Full HD IPS (1920x1080)
-1TB HDD
-8GB RAM (DDR4)

Well the lenovo has a better graphic card but a worse CPU but I would say they are quite similar, not a huge difference between them. The Asus is lighter so I guess thats an advantage but the y700 has a better battery, so I guess its your choice now

I think I'm leaning towards the Asus X550JX, how about you? :)

I have also noticed that the ram that the y700 uses is ddr4 where as asus is ddr3 so the lenovo has faster ram. Whats the price difference? I would say its the matter of preference. I would lean to the lenovo y700 I think. However, I heard that the hinges arent the greatest. But you know a laptop cant be perfect ( unless you pay £20000 ;) )

There's a $60 difference (with the Lenovo being more expensive). For me, the i7 and SSD are what make me choose the ASUS, but I'm sure both systems would be just fine :)
Thanks again!
