I can't wait for MPAA to sue AT&T for piracy. May as well have said, "We can track down murderers, but in order to do so I have murdered this small child". Stupid x 2 to the power of infinity, + Chuck Norris
There is a difference between downloading the type of file provided by the torrent file and the torrent file itself. It is not illegal to download the torrent file itself. It just points you in the right direction to start incriminating yourself.
I don't understand how this can be patented. There is nothing novel in this approach, it is just that ISPs haven't wanted to invest the resources necessary to actually do this. It also mentioned downloading the torrent file, but doesn't almost everyone use magnet links nowadays?
I call BS. Using SSL, TOR, VPN, etc...nobody can sniff your traffic. What are they using to detect this? Deep packet inspection or something? If your traffic is encrypted, and you use private torrent sites, I doubt they know what you're downloading.
If enough people encrypt their private data or support TOR to help secure their privacy then they will have a hard time scrutinizing individuals...
Just saw the fact based film "Fair Game" (2010) the other day - shows how the top of the food chain in the states treat private data of even their Own who are working for them.
You are not safe in the governments hands even when you think you are legit.
(I know that is an extreme case, but there are many more that don't see the light of day)
At&t is doing this. I noticed recently the instant I start a torrent download my router resets (it's an at&t router) as soon as the router is done reseting however - my download begins. If I forget to close my torrent client after the download has finished the router will again reset itself within minutes. Kind of anoying but I still get my torrent.
