Audio from my new headset sounds muffled

To start, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I couldn't find a suitable tab for it so here goes:
I've recently got a new computer, and headset. The computer is working fine yet the headset sounds muffled on Skype... I've tried re-installing the audio drivers yet nothing good has come from it. Is there anything else I can do to solve this issue? Or do I have to buy a new headset...

A gioteck mono headset. And I can try it on another, I'll do it now.

It works using my phone if that helps, I can't test it on another computer as I don't have another one available...

Does the mic work well on your phone as well. I don't really understand whether it is a problem with the mic or the playback of the headset.

It works perfectly on my phone but I'd rather have it to work on my computer. Also it's a problem with the mic, not the audio play back

It could be because your phone has one audio jack for both mic and audio out, whereas most PCs have a jack for audio, and the mic, so you cant get the proper signal through one. If this is the case, then something like this: http/www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-3-5mm-Headset-Splitter-Adapter-Black/dp/B0058DOWH6/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_1_2 should make it work.

Worth a try if you're willing to spend the money I guess. I don't know what the problem would be apart from that.

I went onto the audio devices then went to the headset, opened properties, went to the Enhancements tab, and checked off Voice Cancellation.
