Audio from PC to headphones will only work on steam games

I have been playing Fallout New Vegas and the audio works great, but when I exit the game I cannot get any sound from anywhere on my PC. If I go back to New Vegas I get audio through my headphones again. I would like help to fix my audio problem. Thank you!

right click on your volume icon - volume mixer

verify that all audio levels are correct.

double check mute status or volume levels in other programs.

in volume playback devices, configure, test. do you hear sound?
