Conroy is very misinformed, and this policy just seeks to impose his standards of 'morality' on the entire Australian population. This will put Australia right up there with China in terms of censorship, and I for one resent it. There are no children in our household, nor do we have children visiting. (Well, not very often, anyway...) If this were an optional policy, it wouldn't matter so much to me, but for it to be imposed mandatorily at the ISP level, just makes me irritated. There are so many holes in this proposal (proxies, vpn tunnels, etc.) that it will prove in the end to be rather ineffectual for those determined to get their porn, kiddie porn, whatever. This is a step beyond not having an r 18 rating for games...

bloodblender is a damn fool. The fascists are putting everything in place that they need to insulate themselves from future discontent and revolt. No, it's not a slippery slope. It's a purposeful plan designed by madmen.

This was basically a flop during the trials, It was easily bypassed and couldnt catch half the stuff it was meant to block. Was also news reports about blocking legitimate business'.
Sounds like a giant fail for Australia.... besides if your not looking for the stuff its not like it just jumps out at you, making
"ISP filtering reduces the risk of Australians being inadvertently exposed to RC-rated material when they are online" a bunch of crap

[citation][nom]bloodblender[/nom]"This would include sites containing child sex abuse, bestiality, sexual violence or detailed information about how to use drugs or commit crimes." - ABC News site[/citation]

What, so non-abusive child sex is ok?

Seriously though, I give it a week, tops, before the filter gets crippled. I know that because, as an Australian I'll be doing everything legally in my power to undermine the effectiveness of this violation of rights.

Anyway, what's to stop someone uploading CP to youtube and sharing that info with other paedophiles, who then save that video before it gets pulled? So many loopholes...

Never underestimate the tenacity of geeks who have been seperated from their porn.

I am kinda shocked that this actually passed. Australians should be on the watch after they lost their chance to vote when the gaming labels got yanked.
