Hello all,

I purchased a brand new Averatec 3200 (AMD XP-m 2000+) from Sam's
club. Came with WinXP Home. Did a fresh install of WinXP PRO.
Installed all the drivers from their web site. Well I heard random
clicks of the HD. A week later it would not get past the Bios screen.
Cycled the power. Will not boot at all. I called Averatec support. Wow
answer quickly (Very Good!). Explained to the Tech lady what happen.
She said if I tried to boot of the recovery disks?... Was not able
Bios not coming up. Explained I installed WinXP Pro. She said that
will not work! It's a miracle it's was working and besides that voids
the warranty. I said you must be kidding?! No voids the warranty. I
need you serial number. I hung up on her. I am going to return this to
Sams Club for a refund. I liked this laptop alot... wish it worked. I
would not buy another. Averatec will try to find any, ANY excuse to
VOID the Warranted so they don't lose out! BE CAREFUL!

PS
Another place I would avoid buying laptop from AccessMicro and their
parent company.

Virtually every laptop vendor "voids the warranty" if the originally
installed OS is replaced. Most just won't speak with you once you make
the OS replacment known. Random clicking of the HD; this has a
Hitachi/IBM Travelstar used by many (if not most) vendors. DOA out of
the box or within days is fortunately a major mode of failure for
electronic equipment, and is a major headache for both vendors and
customers.

Buying an Averatec is hit or miss. Many folks have found needing to return 1
or 2 of them until finding a good one. The first 3150HS I bought via Sam's
Club also developed HD "clicking" and slow boots within a few days after
purchase. Ended up returning it for another unit which has worked perfectly
since last summer.

Overall I love this little laptop. A subnotebook for $900 including 3 year
extended warranty. Can't beat the value.

I have an external monitor connected to my new Averatec 3200 Series
(AV3225HS-20) notebook computer. After resuming from hibernate or
standby, Fn-F5 (toggle between LCD/CRT displays) doesn't seem to do
anything: both displayed are on and I can't turn off the signal to
either of them (I want to turn off the LCD display). Any ideas how to
solve this problem?
