Hey everyone! They're letting me out of the cage and back into the field :) Just kidding. I'm quitting my current job and going back into the field as a remote/mobile computer technician. It's been several years (6+). I'm good on tools, equipment and technical know-how. I'm a little out of date on the best applications and software I should have with me at all times. Even though I have (and know) the essentials, I wouldn't mind hearing what you all carry with you on the job and if you use the portable version vs an executable. Would prefer only responses from people who are or have been mobile techs recently, but all advice is welcomed! Thanks and have a great week!

PS Feel free to add paid programs/subscriptions to the list if you consider them a must-have. I will be servicing small/local business clients as well as your typical residential home.

PowerShell is my overall recommendation as a IT tool.

However, "out in the field", "tools", etc. indicate more of a hardware related support function.

Yet if you will be doing computer and network diagnostics, there are some basic PowerShell commands that will be quite useful.

E.g. - starter links:

However, the usefulness does depend on the nature and scope of your field work.
