Hi. I'd like to back up my the Personal Filing Cabinet (folders) in my online AOL to my PC. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
There is no solution to copy your emails as a text, just because (in many cases) emails are more than just text, they contain photos, attachments, etc. If you want to have off-line copy, you'll need some email client which can import all these messages off AOL.

Some good email clients: Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Mail (many versions depending on what Windows version you have), Microsoft Outlook (if you have any of these). Configure the client for POP3 retrieval. If I was you, I would create first an archive on GMail. and pull all from there.

Don't worry about the "folders", or the "Personal Filing Cabinet".

Discover and download the individual files. Or whatever type.
Save them to elsewhere.

1 "folder" every 30 minutes.
Might only take a couple of weeks.

I doubt there is any packaged solution to extract all your stuff from AOL into something relevant for this decade.

Thanks for taking time to respond. I was just hoping. After copying the numbers to a spreadsheet, I learned that I actually have 387 folders and 14,812 files. Your idea would work fine - except - I can't send the "folders," only the individual files. Therefore, if I could export one/minute non-stop, I'd finish in 10.3 days. ;0)
I guess I'll just have to go thru the folders one at a time and read EACH e-mail and only keep the ones I actually need.
Again, thanks for your consideration and THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE to America!

You're very welcome...:)

Yeah, it sucks having to go through a LOT of stuff like that.
But we all encounter that pile of junk sooner or later. Transferring from one ancient platform to a new data structure.
Been there, done that.

I thought you were referring to "files". Word docs or similar.

For the AOL emails...

Thanks again for your attempt to help me, but unfortunately, this doesn't provide a means to get my e-mail messages in bulk from my online AOL account to my PC. Going to g-mail is an option, but I don't use g-mail. I was really hoping to just download all the e-mails as text. Maybe I was dreamin'
